Something truly terrible happens when your friends get married or end up in long-term relationships. Overnight, they transform from a single entity, into a pair. A double act. A ‘we.’

They no longer arrive at social events alone, but rather the husband or the boyfriend is always in tow, even when they haven’t been specifically invited or mentioned. It is a given. Something that is socially expected and accepted.

I, however, find this practice abhorrent.
