Interior design is the rabbit hole I most often dive into on Instagram. I use the word ‘dive’ because I really do gleefully and intentionally throw myself down that hole, scrolling for hours through home renovation pictures, lighting tips, and before and after videos. I have a saved collection called ‘Home Inspo’ that I relentlessly add to and the entire endeavour brings me a lot of joy and entertainment.
I’m also a practical woman, so I save these videos because when I don’t live in a flat the size of a shoebox, I want to be ready. I’m going to need the ‘closet that converts to a workspace’ video and the ‘things I’d do differently in the kitchen video,’ not to mention the ‘things in our utility room that just make sense,’ content.
And that right there is the magic and the poison of Instagram. It has us all believing that as long as we have ‘insert whatever item you want,’ from bikinis to Belfast sinks, everything will be perfect.
